“It was a beautiful, starry night in Rock Haven, California. Three young women were having a conversation in a red Mustang as they cruised down the street, heading for a party.
‘I can’t believe we’re going to a party tonight!’ spoke the redhead excitedly.
‘“Why are you so surprised, Hope?’ spoke the blonde sitting next to her. ‘The party’s at your house!’
‘I know, Natasha. I’m just happy that you two are going with me.’ Hope told her. ‘What about you, Emily?’
‘What?’ asked the dark-haired woman driving the car.
‘Are you glad you’re coming with me?’
‘Not really.’
‘Is there something going on between you two?’ Natasha asked.
‘No. Everything’s just fine.’ Emily responded.
‘Don’t worry, Natty. Emily’s just thinking about her crush.’ Hope said.
‘Emily Spencer, you have a crush? You’ve got to tell us who he is.’
‘It’s nobody.’ Emily told Natasha as they pulled up to Hope’s house.
‘Come on. Just a little hint?’ Natasha asked as they walked up to the door.
‘You’d laugh if I told you.’ Emily said, walking through the door.
‘Hey, there’s Ryan Brockhart. He’s cute.’ Natasha spoke as they walked among the crowd. ‘Wait a second, Is that your crush, Em?’
‘I don’t think so.’ Hope told them. ‘He seems a bit snitchy to me.’
‘You’re just saying that because he’s a cop.’
‘Maybe. Anyway, I doubt he’s Emily’s type.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘You two head for the pool.’ Hope said, walking away from her friends. ‘I need to take care of some business.’
Natasha and Emily walked outside and sat next to the pool, where they talked for several minutes.
‘What will you do after we graduate?’ Natasha asked Emily.
‘I was thinking about becoming a writer.’ Emily told her. ‘You?’
‘I’m going to be a famous filmographer.’ Natasha said. ‘What do you think Hope plans to do?’
‘I honestly don’t know.’
‘I think she would make a good swimmer.’
‘Really?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Hope hates the water.’
‘If she hates water, then why does she have a pool?’
‘It’s for show’
‘So, are you going to tell me the name of your crush or not?’
Before Emily could respond, people screamed as a body fell from the second story window, crashing on the cement near the pool. Natasha walked up to the body, gasping in horror as she turned it around.
‘No!’ Emily screamed in horror. Lying next to the pool, lifeless, was Hope Marsden.
